Hanimaadhoo is one of the inhabited islands of Haa Dhaalu Atoll administrative division and geographically part of Thiladhummathi Atoll in the north of the Maldives. It is also the site one of the four domestic airports of the Maldives. The Hanimaadhoo Meteorological Observatory is also located on this island. Many flight scientific research and investigations have been initiated from Hanimaadhoo.

Donakulhi, Haa Alifu Atoll - Dhonakulhi island is distinctive from the aerial view because of its unique crescent shape. This island has now being developed as a resort.
Inner Lagoon of Hudhufushi, Lhaviyani Atoll - This lagoon is a popular nursery for baby sharks and manta rays. This island is now being developed as a resort.
Kaashidhoo, Kaafu Atoll - It is located at the northern tip of Malé atoll and is the fifth biggest island in the entire Maldivian archipelago. Kaashidhoo is well known for its wealth in coconut trees.
Baarah, Haa Alifu Atoll - The name of the island itself describes the look of the island. Baa is the fifth letter in the Dhivehi alphabet while Rah literally means island in Dhivehi. This island gets the name Baa because it has the shape as the letter Baa in the Dhivehi script. This island has its own historic significance, the most famous being that it was in this island where 'kalhuoh Fummi' (a large ship) was built by the national hero Mohamed Thakurufaanu who saved the Maldives from the Portuguese rule.
Utheem, Haa Alifu Atoll - A Beautiful small island with pristine habitation and white beaches, the ancestral home of National hero and historical legend Mohamed Thakurufaanu, who fought and expelled the Portuguese from the country in the 16th century.
Tourism in Haa Alifu and Haa Dhaalu Atoll
The most Nothern two atolls of the Maldives can be reached by flying to the Hanimadhoo Airport. The two atolls are full of lush inhabited and uninhabited islands and it was only couple of years ago, that tourism was introduced with the opening of the first resort in 2005. This was an opportunity for visitors of Maldives to explore a region that was not possible before and also to learn about the culture and history of the region.
